How are you different from a dealer or an auction house?
Mostly, we're honest about what you have. Most collections are a mix: a few pieces that may be worth real money, and a lot of everyday art by artists nobody has heard of. A dealer usually offers what they can resell it for. A big auction house may only want your top few pieces. We look at all of it, tell you plainly what's what, and point every piece to whatever is best for you.
Then we build a free written plan, because every home and situation is different:
- Standout pieces go to our Catalog Sale, or to a buyer in our network of art dealers and collectors who want that artist or style. When a piece truly warrants it, we'll work with a major auction house. Apply for the January 2027 Catalog Sale.
- Everyday art sells at live auction nights, where 6,400+ followers bid from across the country.
- Need it fast? A cash buyout for all or part of it, paid the same day.
- Our fee comes out of the sale. We only do well when you do.
And if we're not the right fit, we'll tell you early. No wasted time on either side.
Is my art worth anything?
Maybe, and we'll tell you straight. Most art in most homes is decorative: prints, reproductions, and paintings by unknown artists. It usually sells for modest amounts, but it does sell, and we find the right buyers for it. Once in a while there's a piece worth real money, which is why we look at everything before anything is priced.
Some pieces are worth more to your family than to a buyer, and we'll tell you that too. If selling doesn't make sense, we'll say so early, so nobody's time is wasted.
I have a house full of paintings. Where do we start?
With photos. Send a few of the walls, or the stack in the garage. We'll tell you honestly what looks promising and what's likely everyday art. A home full of random paintings is common, and we'll do our best to find each one the right buyer for the most money possible. Every home is different, so your plan will be too.
Do you work with art dealers and auction houses?
Yes. For certain collections, like a known artist, a regional school such as California plein air, or a large group in one style, we work with a network of art buyers, dealers, and specialists who are already looking for exactly that. And when a piece truly warrants it, we'll work with a major auction house. We want what's best for you, so if someone else is the best way to sell a piece, your plan will say so.
Can my art go into your Catalog Sale?
Only if it's a fit. The Catalog Sale is for standout pieces, so we're selective. Apply with a photo and a few quick answers. If your piece is selected, we'll send an auction estimate, a proposed minimum, and our fee structure before you agree to anything. If it isn't, we'll tell you, and suggest a better way to sell it. Apply now.
How do you make sure I get the best price?
By matching each piece to the right buyer. Everyday art goes to live auction nights, where bidders compete, so the market sets the price instead of a lowball offer. Standout pieces go to our Catalog Sale, to a dealer or collector in our network, or to a major auction house when it's warranted. You can set a minimum on anything, and qualifying pieces that don't sell keep selling in our online shop.
We can't promise what any piece will bring. We can promise it will be in front of the right people.
Do I have to sell my whole collection?
No. Many people start with part of it. Every situation is different, so we'll suggest an order that makes sense, often selling in phases so your best pieces have time to find the right buyers. Keep anything that means something to you.
What if you're not sure what something is worth?
Then we say so. If a piece might be worth real money and we're not certain, we take it to a specialist for a proper appraisal. You'll see that cost in your plan before anything happens, and it comes out of the sale.
What if some pieces aren't real?
It happens more than you'd think, and it's not a dead end. Prints sold as paintings, reproductions, and decorative copies all have buyers. We'll tell you privately what we find, then sell every piece as exactly what it is.
Do you take large paintings?
Yes. We pick up everything, large framed pieces included, and we have local buyers for art that's too big to ship.
What does it cost?
No upfront fees. Our fee depends on what your collection needs, it's written in your free plan before anything happens, and it comes out of the sale. On a live sale, you keep the larger share of what sells.
How and when do I get paid?
Buyouts are paid the same day. Live sales pay within days, with a statement showing every piece and what it sold for.
How do you keep track of sales?
Every sale is recorded in a system built for it, so nothing depends on memory or paper. You get an itemized statement of every piece and what it sold for, so there is no guessing and no missing money.
Do I have to pack, ship, or bring anything in?
No. We come to you anywhere from San Diego to LA to Palm Springs. We pack it and haul it.
What else do you sell?
Jewelry and watches, sports and trading cards, coins, sterling silver, mid century and designer furniture, antiques, Asian art, toys, and more. If people collect it, we probably know who wants it. Selling a whole home? See the Whole House Plan.
